Introduction
In December last year, we were contacted by a customer living in St Asaph, Denbighshire, whose existing Potterton Kingfisher gas boiler had failed. As this was an urgent issue, we prioritised the job and ensured that all necessary work was completed in time for Christmas, providing the customer with much-needed heating.
Methodology
Following a thorough review of the customer’s property and heating requirements, we recommended the Worcester Bosch Greenstar 42kW CDi Regular floor-standing boiler. This model was an ideal replacement for the older floor-standing unit, particularly in a larger home. The chosen boiler is a condensing model equipped with a built-in condense pump, an essential feature to manage the disposal of condensate water efficiently. Our recommendation took into account the customer’s need for a reliable and high-performance heating system with long-term efficiency and durability.
Installation
The installation process began with the safe disconnection and removal of the failing Potterton Kingfisher boiler from the basement. We then set to work removing the existing pipework, which was in a poor and unsafe condition. The new Worcester Bosch floor-standing boiler was installed within the fireplace, providing an efficient use of space. To ensure proper ventilation, we ran a flexible 12-metre flue liner up the chimney, which was just long enough to extend from the basement to the top of the third-floor chimney.
We took care to install new pipework, ensuring ease of maintenance in the future. Where possible, we retained and integrated existing components, including the Grundfos MAGNA circulator pump. Our team also installed a magnetic filter, which helps mitigate the damaging effects of debris and pollutants within the heating system. Lastly, we re-wired the entire system and carried out comprehensive testing to guarantee safe and optimal operation before handing over the completed installation to the customer.
Outcome
The customer was extremely pleased that we were able to complete this emergency installation just before Christmas, particularly after experiencing setbacks with other plumbers in the area. They valued our team’s professionalism, efficiency, and cleanliness throughout the job. As an accredited Worcester Bosch installer, we were also able to offer the customer a ten-year warranty, providing them with long-term peace of mind. The new system ensures reliable heating and improved energy efficiency, making a significant difference in their home’s comfort and energy bills.
