Samsung Air Source Heat Pump Installation In Rhosneigr

Introduction

The Nixon team recently completed the installation of an 8kW Samsung Air Source Heat Pump for a homeowner in Rhosneigr, a coastal village in the south-west of Anglesey, North Wales. The customer had previously relied on electric storage heaters to utilise off-peak electricity rates. However, they found this system both inefficient and costly to run. With assistance from the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), the customer could switch to a more sustainable and energy-efficient heating solution.

Methodology

After assessing the customer’s requirements, an 8kW Samsung Air Source Heat Pump was chosen due to its quiet operation (less than 45 decibels) and its ability to heat water to 65°C. The decision was made to pair the heat pump with a 200-litre cylinder for hot water storage, fitting it neatly into an existing cupboard space. New double-panel radiators were needed throughout the property, along with a modern chrome towel radiator for the bathroom. This ensured an efficient and aesthetically pleasing heating system.

Installation

The installation began with the fitting of the Samsung Air Source Heat Pump. The 8kW unit was installed neatly on an outside passageway, while the 200-litre hot water cylinder was positioned nearby in a large cupboard. Careful attention was paid to insulating external pipework to prevent unnecessary heat loss. Our team then installed new double-panel radiators, which work more efficiently with the lower flow temperatures generated by the heat pump, ensuring consistent and comfortable warmth throughout the property. A modern chrome towel radiator was also fitted in the bathroom for both practical use and as an additional heat source.

After completing the physical installation, our technicians performed a series of rigorous tests to ensure the system was working correctly. Finally, the homeowner was provided with a detailed explanation of how to use and maintain their new heating system.

Funding

The homeowner benefitted from the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), contributing £7,500 towards the installation. As the project involved replacing an electric heating system with a renewable one, the funding significantly reduced the upfront costs. Given that low-carbon heating systems such as air source heat pumps are often more expensive than traditional fossil fuel boilers, the BUS scheme helps to make these technologies more accessible for homeowners. By covering a large portion of the cost, it encourages the adoption of renewable heating systems across the UK.

Outcome

The homeowner was very happy with the installation, praising the high standard of workmanship and the professionalism of the Nixon team. The new heat pump system has not only provided them with a more efficient and environmentally friendly heating solution but has also greatly reduced their energy bills. The project is a testament to how modern heat pump systems, combined with government funding, can provide a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to traditional heating methods.
