Samsung Air Source Heat Pump Installation In Melidan

Introduction

The Nixon Plumbing team recently completed a project in Melidan, a quaint village nestled between Prestatyn and Dyserth in Denbighshire, North Wales. The project involved the replacement of an outdated and inefficient oil heating system with a modern, sustainable solution: a Samsung Air Source Heat Pump. This case study summarises the methodology, installation, funding and outcome of this project.

Methodology

The project began with a detailed assessment of the property’s existing heating system. Following this, our team scheduled the removal of the old oil boiler and tank, to be replaced with an 8kW Samsung Monobloc Air Source Heat Pump. In addition to this, we also specified the installation of a Kodiak 210 L pre-plumb cylinder specifically designed for heat pump systems.

Recognising the importance of an efficient central heating system, upgrades needed to be made to pipework, transitioning from 10mm to 15mm. Selected radiators also needed upgrading to complement the heat pump’s operation.

Installation

The installation process began with the removal of the obsolete oil boiler and tank, to be replaced with the new Samsung Air Source Heat Pump. The installation of the heat pump involved careful positioning and connection to the property’s existing heating and hot water systems. The Kodiak pre-plumb cylinder was integrated into the system for hot water provision.

Furthermore, the upgrades to the central heating system, including pipework and radiators, were carried out to ensure optimal performance with the new heat pump technology. The installation concluded with a full power flush and comprehensive testing to ensure optimal functionality.

Funding

An important aspect of this project was the use of funding through the Government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). As the customer transitioned from an oil-based system to renewable energy, they were eligible for a subsidy of £7500 towards the installation of the Air Source Heat Pump. This funding initiative significantly reduced the financial burden on the customer, making the transition to sustainable heating more affordable and appealing.

Outcome

The outcome of the project was highly successful, with the customer benefitting from a modern, energy-efficient heating solution. The Samsung Air Source Heat Pump provides reliable heating and hot water while significantly reducing energy consumption compared to the old oil system.

The project demonstrates Nixon Plumbing’s commitment to delivering innovative and sustainable heating solutions tailored to meet the needs of its customers. Through meticulous planning, professional installation and access to Government funding, the transition to renewable energy was made easy and cost-effective, ultimately enhancing the comfort and efficiency of this customer’s home in Melidan.
