Introduction
A homeowner in Halkyn, a picturesque village nestled in Flintshire, decided to transition from conventional oil heating to a more sustainable heating solution. With the objective of reducing carbon emissions and energy bills, they agreed to install a Samsung Air Source Heat Pump. This case study looks into this renewable energy project’s methodology, installation, funding sources, and outcome.
Methodology
The project began with a thorough assessment of the property’s heating requirements by the Nixon team. The outdated Worcester Greenstar Heatslave oil-fired combination boiler would be replaced with a Samsung 8kW Gen 6 Monobloc Air Source Heat Pump. This was selected for its affordability, reliability, and efficiency, aligning perfectly with the homeowner’s objectives of sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
The air source heat pump would be paired with the innovative Kodiak water cylinder by Joule, specifically designed for heat pump systems. The properties radiators would also need to be upgraded to higher output models suitable for the new air source heat pump.
Installation
With detailed planning, the installation proceeded smoothly. The old pipework was carefully replaced, and the new air source heat pump and water cylinder were seamlessly integrated. Positioning the air source heat pump on the other side of the exterior wall maximised efficiency while minimising visual impact. Careful attention was paid to the electrics, followed by a comprehensive testing phase to verify the system’s functionality and efficiency.
Funding
To address the financial implications of the project, we helped the homeowner access ECO4 funding. The household’s circumstances made them eligible for an upgrade under the government scheme, easing the financial burden of transitioning to a greener heating solution. Existing solar panels were used to enhance the project’s viability, enabling the generation of free hot water with zero carbon emissions.
Outcome
The homeowner was delighted with the results, noticing much-improved efficiency and lower energy bills. By harnessing the abundant energy from the environment, the Samsung Air Source Heat Pump and solar panels deliver reliable heating while significantly reducing its carbon footprint.
