Introduction
The Nixon team recently completed a project in Blaenau Ffestiniog, a former slate mining town in Gwynedd, North Wales. Our job was to replace an outdated oil boiler with a more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly alternative. The chosen solution was the Klover Ecompact 150 biomass boiler, recognised for its compact design and excellent efficiency.
Methodology
The project started with a thorough assessment of the existing heating system, checking the location for the new biomass boiler and designing a seamless integration with the client’s existing heating system. The Klover Ecompact 150, with its small footprint and self-cleaning capabilities, was deemed an ideal fit for the customer’s needs and available space.
Installation
During the installation, we worked quickly and tried to reduce disruption to the client’s daily activities. The Klover Ecompact 150’s design, requiring no access from the rear or sides helped speed up the installation and the Tempest cylinder for hot water and pipework connects seamlessly with the existing heating setup. Following the installation, we thoroughly inspected the entire heating system to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
Funding
To ease the cost of switching to an eco-friendly heating system, the client took advantage of the government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme. This initiative allowed them to access a £5,000 grant, specifically designed to support the transition from fossil fuel heating systems to eco-friendly alternatives such as heat pumps or biomass boilers. The grant significantly contributed to covering the installation costs, making the shift towards a greener heating solution more economically viable.
Outcome
Upgrading to a Klover Ecompact 150 biomass boiler resulted in a highly efficient and environmentally conscious heating system. With an output of 14.6kW to water and an impressive efficiency of 92.6%, the new system exceeded expectations. The client was delighted with both the environmental impact and the cost-effectiveness achieved through the project, highlighting the success of our approach in providing sustainable heating solutions.
