16kW Samsung Air Source Heat Pump Installation in Nantglyn

Introduction

We were trusted to replace an outdated oil boiler at a residential property in Nantglyn, a small village of just over 300 residents in Denbighshire, North Wales. Situated approximately 4.5 miles from the nearest town, Denbigh, the property’s remote location had recently caused significant challenges for the homeowners, as mini fuel tankers had stopped delivering oil to the location. This presented an opportunity to transition away from oil to a renewable heat source, leading the residents to contact us for a free quotation. Our plan was to decommission the existing oil boiler and replace it with a modern, energy-efficient air source heat pump to futureproof the property’s heating requirements.

Methodology

Following a comprehensive survey of the property, we recommended the installation of a Samsung 16kW EHS Mono HT Quiet air source heat pump. This model is particularly suited for domestic properties, delivering high water temperatures with impressively low noise levels. The EHS Mono provides highly energy-efficient heating and hot water, rated A+++, consuming approximately 1kW of electricity to generate 5kW of output by gathering ambient heat from the air.

A thorough inspection of the existing plumbing revealed that most of the radiators were of sufficient size. However, we advised replacing three radiators with higher output models to ensure optimal performance and comfort throughout the property.

Installation

Our experienced installation team commenced by removing the old Worcester oil boiler, carefully disconnecting the pipework and clearing the utility room. Ample space allowed us to install a new hot water cylinder and associated plumbing without difficulty. The Samsung air source heat pump was mounted externally on a nearby wall and all necessary pipework and electrics were routed back into the property.

We installed a 200L Joule hot water cylinder alongside pipework and electronic controls. In addition to the three replacement radiators, we upgraded ten radiator valves. Given the relatively modern state of the existing pipework and radiators, further changes were not needed. To enhance efficiency and comfort, we configured the heating system into three zones, enabling independent temperature control in the guest rooms and kitchen. After a thorough system test, we provided the homeowners with a comprehensive walk-through on operating their new heating system. We also safely removed and disposed of the obsolete oil tank, which was a big job on its own!

Funding

To reduce the financial burden of switching to an eco-friendly heating system, we were able to use the government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme. This initiative awarded them a £7,500 grant, substantially offsetting installation costs and making the switch to renewable energy far more affordable.

Outcome

The homeowners now enjoy a warm, comfortable home powered by renewable energy. The heat pump delivers plenty of hot water and consistent heating throughout the property. Delighted with the smooth installation process and impressed by the system’s efficiency and environmental benefits, the residents feel reassured they made the right decision to move away from oil-based heating.
