Klover Biomass Boiler Installation, Tremeirchion

Introduction

A recent installation project involved the replacement of an outdated oil boiler with a Klover Ecompact 150, a state-of-the-art wood pellet utility boiler. The client, situated in the picturesque village of Tremeirchion, North Wales, sought a more sustainable and energy-efficient heating solution. Biomass, derived from burning wood pellets, emerged as the renewable energy source of choice. With an impressive output of up to 14.6kW and an efficiency rating of 92.6%, the Klover Ecompact 150 promised both environmental benefits and enhanced performance.

Methodology

The installation process began with a comprehensive assessment of the client’s heating needs and the property’s suitability for a biomass solution. The Klover Ecompact 150‘s design, featuring top plumbing connections, allowed for a space-efficient placement close to the wall. The planned position of the buffer tank above the boiler maximises available space, simplifies the plumbing and improves boiler runtime by preventing short cycling. Additionally, we specified a Telford slimline pressurised cylinder behind the boiler in a cupboard for enhanced efficiency.

As part of the installation, we specified new radiators and all-new thermostatic radiator valves to enhance overall efficiency. The flexibility of the flue outlet position, which could be either rear or top, was leveraged to direct the flu upwards through the roof and up the gable end, extending just beyond roof height. This approach ensured both optimal functionality and minimal visual impact on the property.

Installation

The installation of the Klover Ecompact 150 proved seamless, with careful attention paid to every detail. The boiler’s top plumbing connections allowed for a snug fit close to the wall, optimising available space. The incorporation of the new quartz ignition element ensured a swift and reliable ignition process. The adaptable flue outlet position enabled us to direct the flu upward through the roof and up the gable end, minimising visual impact.

Funding

The client benefited from the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), a government initiative to promote the decarbonisation of heating in buildings through renewable solutions. Under the scheme, the client received a substantial £5,000 contribution towards the installation cost. This financial incentive was pivotal in making the upgrade more affordable, aligning with the broader goal of encouraging sustainable heating solutions.

Outcome

The successful implementation of the Klover Ecompact 150, coupled with the integration of new cylinder, radiators and thermostatic radiator valves, resulted in a marked improvement in the overall efficiency of the heating system. The client now enjoys a reliable, eco-friendly heating solution that not only reduces carbon footprint but also contributes to long-term energy cost savings. The project demonstrates how a well-planned transition to biomass heating, supported by government initiatives, can yield real benefits for both homeowners and the environment.
