Introduction
We were recently contacted by a homeowner looking for a cost-effective and sustainable heating solution for their rural property near Ruthin in North Wales. This project not only showcases the latest biomass heating technology but also demonstrates our dedication to providing environmentally friendly options for our clients.
Methodology
To understand the unique needs of the homeowner, our team conducted a thorough assessment of the property before recommending a suitable system. We recommended the installation of a Klover Style 180 for its excellent efficiency and versatility, in conjunction with Stelrad Radiators and a 200L Unvented Cylinder. The inclusion of Stelrad radiators ensured an efficient distribution of heat across each room.
Financial Support
The homeowner was eligible for Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) funding, a government initiative allocating £450 million in grant funding to encourage the decarbonisation of heat in buildings. Using the BUS scheme, the homeowner was eligible for a substantial £5000 grant towards the installation of the biomass boiler. Our team managed the entire grant claim process, streamlining paperwork and ensuring an effortless experience for the homeowner. The only requirement for the homeowner was to obtain a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).
What added to the financial appeal for the homeowner was the reduced VAT rate applicable to the installation of energy-saving materials and technologies. The 0% VAT rate lasts until 31st March 2027.
Installation
Professional installation is crucial for optimal performance and safety. Our trained technicians integrated the Klover biomass boiler into the heating system, calibrating it for optimal efficiency. The ten Stelrad radiators were carefully installed in each room along with the 200L cylinder for hot water storage.
We also configured the immersion system to harness any surplus electricity generated by the customer’s current solar panels, providing additional hot water during the summer months. This adds another layer to this environmentally conscious approach, maximising the sustainable benefits for the homeowner.
Outcome
The homeowner is not only delighted with our heating solution in their rural home but also sees it as a pioneering example of how innovative heating solutions can seamlessly align with government initiatives. This installation not only enhances the comfort of the home but also sets a benchmark for environmentally conscious practices, proving that such initiatives can have a positive impact on both the environment and homeowners’ lives.
